The Edward King House is accepting applications from local amateur cooks to participate in its first Sunday Sauce Challenge as part of the Festa 2024 Italiana calendar of events. The contestants will compete for bragging rights to have presented Newport’s Best Sunday Sauce Meatball for 2024!  Please read the information below carefully, fill out the application form and submit it to Carmela Geer at the Edward King House as soon as possible as there are limited spaces available for competitors.

The Sunday Sauce Challenge will be conducted on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 6:00pm at the Edward King House at 35 King Street in Newport.  As a possible contestant, here is what you need to know.  You must be prepared to make at least 1 gallon of your favorite homemade, fully cooked sauce and bring it in a container that can easily be poured into the chafing dishes we will have available for you to keep it warm.  You will be expected to arrive between 5:00 and 5:15pm on the day of the event.  Volunteers will serve your sauce and pair it with a piece of Italian bread, so no one knows who the chef is. 

The Edward King House will supply Italian bread, drinks and pastries to compliment the evening’s festivities. 

Ticket holders will be given one ballot by which to vote for their favorite sauce.  At the end of the evening the winner will be announced and presented with a small trophy that carries the bragging rights for “Newport’s Best Sunday Sauce” for the entire year!
