Fitness Programs (October)

Each class is sold in monthly bundles. Refunds are not available.
Tuesdays
S.A.I.L (Stay Active and Independent for Life) at 9am
In partnership with CareLink RI, we are offering an exciting and enjoyable evidenced based wellness program to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. The SAIL program consists of 1-hour sessions, 2 times a week for 6 months and includes a warm-up, aerobics, light weights, balance, strength, stretching, and one educational topic for each class. The program is meant to be both fun and enriching and can be adapted to accommodate individuals with a mild level of mobility issues. All participants will have midpoint and final program balance measurements allowing them to track their progress. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dates: 9/10 to 11/26.
Pilates with Kathy from ShipShape (on Zoom) at 9am
Its muscle-strengthening benefits mean that it is also very beneficial for over 50s. That’s because, as you get older, you start to lose muscle mass & engaging with a regular Pilates routine will help strengthen those muscles in the long-term. Must have camera on, participants will not be admitted after 9:10 Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Balance , Breath and Movement with Kathy from ShipShape (on Zoom) at 10am
Do you want to maintain or improve your mobility & strength? Is loss of balance and falling a concern? This program assesses your current abilities & incorporates balance, stretching, & strengthening movements to increase mind/body awareness. Must have camera. No admittance after 10:10. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Silver Age Chair Yoga with Carmen (in-person/indoors) at 10:30am
Silver Age Chair Yoga is a program designed to meet the special health needs of older adults. Safely participate at your own level of comfort. This is a gentle introduction to chair yoga. Seated chair postures as well as chair supported standing postures will be practiced. Bringing your own mat is required. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Intermediate Boxing Fitness with Karen (in-person/indoors) at 10am
Throwing punches is a fun way to stay strong and fit at any age, but it is especially beneficial for older adults. Come get moving with professional boxer Karen Dulin from Newport Boxfit. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Boxing Light Fitness with Karen (in-person/indoors) at 11:15am
This class is for those who have NOT taken Boxing Fitness at the EKHSC. Throwing punches is a fun way to stay strong and fit at any age, but it is especially beneficial for older adults. Come get moving with professional boxer Karen Dulin from Newport Boxfit. Boxing moves are great for cognitive function. Instructor will conduct a boxing assessment during the class. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Keep Your Independence With Tommy @Donovan Manor (In Person/indoors) at 11:15am
Keep Your Independence through easy, fun movements designed to help you manage: stairs, chairs, cars, walking, balance and mind/body connections. This program is being offered at Donovan Manor in Newport. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Gentle Night Yoga with Keith In Person (Tuesday) at 6pm
This class will focus on opening up and releasing tension in the hips, legs and lower back. This will be accomplished with reclining, seated and standing poses. Participants will also work on core strength and balance. Everything will be done in a gentle relaxed way. This class will include breath work to focus and, of course, savasana. Dates: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Wednesdays
Chair Yoga Dance with Carmen (IN PERSON) Wednesday at 9am
This class is full of Moving, Swinging, and Jiving. Chair Yoga Dance is done Sitting or Standing near a chair and blends yoga movement synchronized with a music soundtrack and is a whole lot of fun. Music from all eras and genres like pop, western, Motown and lots more. Bringing your own mat is required. Dates: 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 No Class 10/2
Intermediate Yoga with Andrea (in-person/indoors) at 9am
Must have some experience with yoga before you take intermediate yoga. Explore the fundamentals as you learn to breathe and move deeply from within. Practice light movements with consciousness to build strength, balance, and flexibility and inner peace. Participants are required to bring their own mats. Dates: 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 No Class 10/2
Tai Chi with Kenji (in-person/indoors) at 10:30am
Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that is suitable for older adults, even if managing chronic conditions. It offers the benefits of flexibility, muscle strengthening, and endurance training. Tai Chi can improve the health of seniors without worsening existing impairments. Dates: 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 No Class 10/2
F.A.S.T@Donovan Manor (In Person/indoors) at 11:15am
F.A.S.T: Fun, Active, Strength Training is a dynamic upper, lower, and core exercise program that will incorporate nutrition tips and recipes. This class is for beginners and advanced participants, as modificatons will be available. Instructed by Regina Dublin, RN. Dates: 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 No Class 10/2
